Guided Tours
The village of Fonterutoli, one of the most particular in Italy presents itself as a quiet campaign village, consisting of a few houses, the church of San Miniato and the villa, built at the end of 1500 in place of the fortified castle. From 1435, the story of Fonterutoli is inextricably linked to the history of Mazzei Marquis, when the noble family became the owner.
Since its origins, the Mazzeis carry out the activity of wine growers and producers. Filippo Mazzei, an authentic "traveler of the world", one of the greatest figures in the entire generation, was invited at the end of 1700 by his friend Thomas Jefferson, the future President of the United States, to plant a vineyard in his residence of Monticello in Virginia. He arrived with a group of Tuscan winemakers and created the first vineyards in Virginia.
But it is just in Fonterutoli that over generations the most coveted and glorious family project is enacted. In the ancient village the whole company was founded and developed, spread over a total area of 470 hectares, with specialized vineyards divided into four areas: Fonterutoli, Siepi, Badiola and Belvedere.
Fonterutoli is currently one of the biggest wineries reality, globally.
For this reason the company has thought of offering the opportunity to deepen the knowledge of the prestigious estate, implementing a program that includes guided tours with tasting.
Fonterutoli Storico: expert sommeliers will be pleased to accompany you on a tour in the historical cellars, replying to all your curiosities. The visit to the village with references to the long history of the family is included.
Fonterutoli Vip: the new wine cellar, normally closed to the public, opens its doors to accommodate small groups and offer them very special tours, accompanied by a highly qualified staff. The visit finishes with a tasting of the best wines produced by Mazzei Marquis in the family's estates.
